I tried this out today, pretty good but I would change a few things. For an 8x8 pan as the recipe calls for I would reduce the apples from four to two, I used four and had to use a 9x13 pan to fit them in one layer. Using the larger pan meant the crumbles were fairly sparse. As for the choice of apples, I thought the tartness of the granny smiths seemed out of place, I would have used a sweeter apple like a gala. And as much as I like almond extract it is a little strong in the amount used here, I would try cutting it back to maybe 1/2 teaspoon.
